Apple fritters are one of my favorites from a bakery but my mom made the best ones. When I was growing up my mom would make these and homemade doughnuts for us on a weekend morning, I will never forget the smell in the house when she decided to surprise us with them 🙂

Ingredients:

  • 3 Cups of All Purpose Flour
  • 4 tsp of Baking Powder
  • 1 tsp of Salt
  • 4 TBSP of White Sugar
  • 6 TBSP of Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp of Vanilla
  • 2 TBSP of Olive Oil
  • 1 1/3 Cups of Milk
  • 4 Eggs (beaten)
  • 3 Cups of Granny Smith Apples (peeled, cored and cut into 1″ cubes)
  • 3 Cups of Honey Crisp Apples (peeled, cored and cut into 1″ cubes)
  • Vegetable Oil For Frying

Glaze For The Apple Fritters:
  • 3 Cups of Powdered Sugar
  • 8 TBSP of Milk
  • 2 tsp of Vanilla

*** Blend all of the ingredients together with a fork until smooth and set aside***

Directions:

  1. Put your sugar and cinnamon into a small bowl, mix and set aside
  2. Sift your flour baking powder and salt all together into a bowl
  3. Add your milk, eggs, olive oil and vanilla to the flour mixture and blend well
  4. Pour in the cinnamon sugar stirring until combined
  5. Add your chopped apples mixing by hand until they are well combined and evenly distributed throughout the dough
  6. Heat your frying oil in a deep skillet or deep fryer to 375*
  7. Drop your apple fritter dough by heaping Tablespoons into the hot oil about 4 at a time so that they aren’t crowded and you can flip them
  8. Cook for about 3 minutes, flip and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes
  9. Remove and put on wire rack to drain the oil (put paper towel under the racks)
  10. Continue cooking in batches until all your dough mixture is gone
  11. Brush thickly with the glaze or coat with cinnamon sugar (if the glaze is to thick, just put in the microwave for 10 seconds at a time stirring between every 10 seconds until it’s the right consistency)
